frequent asked questions about diving with ocean quest scuba sandy's sunday

Q. Are all of our dives considered drift dives?
A. Yes, with the Gulf Stream present in our area, all of our dives are drift. This is a
very simple way to dive and quit enjoyable. You just go with the flow and let the
boat pick you up when you surface.
Q. Do I need any special equipment for drift diving?
A. We recommend that everyone has a safety sausage. Orange or red are the
preferred colors. They serve as a surface marker for you when you are waiting for
the boat. It let's any other boat traffic know you are there also. All of our hunters
are required to have them. If you rent gear from us, you'll be provided with a
safety sausage at no extra charge. One can be purchased at a dive shop for approx.
$20.00
Q. What is the nearest airport?
A. West Palm Beach airport is just about 15 minutes from our marina. Ft Lauderdale is
also a popular airport, it is approx. 65 miles from the marina. If you are coming in from
Miami airport, your a little less than 2 hours away, and from Orlando about 2 1/2 hrs
away from Palm Beach.
Q. Where are places to stay nearby.
A. We have all the normal chain hotels in our area. We recommend the Super 8 on
US Hwy 1. It is a good neighborhood and is only a few minutes from the boat. There
is also a wide variety of restraunts in the area. If you looking to stay on the beach,
there is: The Resort, Palm Beach Shores Resort, Hilton and Marriott on Singer Island.
These rooms are a little more pricy but right on the beach and only a few minutes
from the boat. The Super 8 is 561-848-2414
Q. Is there camping in the area?
A. There are a few places to camp in our area. You can do a search for camping in our
area to get a list. Lion Country Safari is on the list, it is probably a good 40 minutes
from the marina.
Q. What is the water temp?
A. Water temp varies throughout the year but is never considered "cold". We have
temperatures in the low 80's during the summer months, and in the low 70's in the
winter months. We do get thermoclines from time to time, but they are not easy to
predict. Some of our coldest thermoclines is in July. Most divers are comfortable in a 3
mil wetsuit.
Q. What are the sea conditions like?
A. Sea conditions are impossible to predict, especially the current and visibility. You
can check our Captains report page for a our most current conditions. Also, use our
links page we have listed the marine weather report there. Keep in mind that our dive
sites are considered to be in the near shore area. Don't look at the Gulf Stream seas,
that is for miles off shore.
Q. Is there water on the boat?
A. For a complete list of the equipment and supplies on the boat check out our "Sandy's
Sunday" page. But we do stock the boat with bottled drinking water, sodas, snacks and
fresh fruit. We also provide weight to our divers at no extra charge.

first aid and cpr certifications.
